Some crowd called 2rn are responsible for deciding if equipment can get the 'Saorview Approved' certification.
The requirements to get Saorview approved are availabe in this technical document from the 2rn website
This really technical document lists the things your set-top box or smart tv needs to be able to do to get saorview approved which include:
- “receive and decode MPEG4 AVC (H.264) based SDTV and HDTV services, MHEG5 data services, EBU Teletext, EBU and DVB subtitling services.”
- “support DVB-T demodulation; the support of DVB-T2 changed from optional to mandatory on 1 st January 2013 for the Irish DTT network.”
- “receive channels in the VHF band III and UHF bands IV and V”
